On February 12th, 1853, members of the Baptist Church of Christ assembled at Mt. Pleasant to constitute a church. An organizational meeting was held on the second Sunday in May, 1853. The Articles of Faith and Church Covenant were read and adopted.
Elder William Harrill was elected the first pastor of the church, and served from 1853 - 1890. Mt. Pleasant was a member of the Green River Baptist Association until November 27, 1890; at which time the church voted to withdraw in order to help form the Sandy Run Baptist Association, a relationship that still exists today.
There have been five buildings occupied by this congregation in history. The current building took nearly three years to plan, and one year to construct. The Dedication Service of the new Worship Center was held on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Current church membership is approximately 640.
Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church is a very active and vibrant congregation of followers that believe strongly in corporate worship, witnessing to the lost, and working for the Savior. As the Psalmist said in Psalm 66:5, “Come and see” what wonderful things the Lord is doing at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church!
